Arizona State University: Full-Time Research Specialist. The Urban and Stream Ecosystems Laboratory (Nancy Grimm’s research group) with the School of Life Sciences will be hiring a Research Specialist/Lab Manager to assist with ecological and biogeochemical field and laboratory research. Dr. Grimm and her team are conducting research on aridland streams and urban aquatic systems. The Research Specialist/Lab Manager will work with researchers in stream ecology (with a long-term project on Sycamore Creek, AZ and a new collaborative project studying stream metabolism across the continent) and urban ecology (with the Central Arizona-Phoenix LTER and Urban Resilience to Extremes SRN). This position is funded by various grants for an initial appointment of one year, with an expectation of extension to the end of the funding period of the grants (December 2020). Continuation beyond the end of the grants is contingent on future grant funding. The start date is 1 July 2017, and the salary range is $38-45k per year (depending on experience). Arizona State University: The Hall Lab, in the School of Life Sciences, seeks to hire a Research Specialist to assist with ecological field and laboratory research. Principal Investigator Dr. Sharon J. Hall and her team conduct research on the ecology of native and managed ecosystems in the US and abroad. Canadian Organization for Tropical Education and Rainforest Conservation: Research Coordinator for Caño Palma Biological Station, Tortuguero, Costa Rica. COTERC seeks a full-time Research Coordinator to administer and operate the research projects permitted at Caño Palma Biological Station. Our mission is to provide leadership in education, research, conservation, and the educated use of natural resources in the tropics. The Biological Station is located next to the Caribbean Ocean within the Barra Colorado Wildlife Refuge and north of the Tortuguero National Park; a region renowned for its sea turtles and lowland rainforest with high diversity. Duke University: Research Technician Position – Drosophila genetics and behavior. The Bhandawat lab studies how an animal's behavior emerges from the complex interaction amongst the animal's nervous system, its muscle-body dynamics, and its environment. We use fruitflies (Drosophila melanogaster) as our model organism because they perform many complex behaviors with a relatively simple brain, and because of the many genetic tools that are available in the flies. We employ a multi-pronged approach which includes in vivo whole-cell patch clamp recordings, imaging, quantitative measurement of behavior, biomechanics and computation. Emory University: The Civitello Lab in the Biology Department is searching for a research technician to assist in lab management and running experiments. The lab studies the ecological drivers of parasite transmission and reproduction, primarily using human schistosomes and their snail intermediate hosts. We conduct experiments and build models that are meant to bridge physiological processes within individuals and population dynamics. Indiana University: The Phillips lab is seeking a highly-motivated individual to join our team as a Research Associate. Research in the Phillips lab focuses on quantifying how plant-microbe interactions influence biogeochemical cycling and ecosystem processes in forests. Our work is broadly focused on explaining ecosystem carbon and water cycle dynamics in North American ecosystems using a range of tools, including eddy covariance observations, tree physiological measurements, and network-level syntheses of micro-meteorological data. University of Texas at Austin Marine Science Institute: The Erisman and Yeager labs at UTMSI are looking for a joint technician to begin January 2017. Research in the Erisman and Yeager labs spans topics in marine fisheries ecology, fisheries management, coastal food web ecology, and landscape ecology. University of Washington Seattle: The School of Environmental and Forest Sciences has created a new shared genetics lab directed by Dr. Laura Prugh. We seek an experienced individual to help get the lab up and running, supervise and train lab users, and to carry out noninvasive genotyping projects. Wichita State University: Biology Field Station Manager. The Department of Biological Sciences is seeking a professional with a minimum of a master’s degree or equivalent experience in ecology, biology or a related field to restore and maintain the ecological integrity of the department’s four ecological reserves. These sites are all located in south-central Kansas and include restored grassland, riparian zones, and a large ranch in the Flint Hills, which is part of the largest intact tallgrass prairie region in the U.S. This position will be a vital member of the growing field biology research program at WSU. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, maintaining the field station building at the Ninnescah Reserve, coordinating prescribed burns, controlling invasive species, fence and road maintenance, and maintaining land management records for all reserves, coordinating community outreach, supervising student interns and assisting in the teaching of environmental-themed courses within the department.
